The Great Outdoors

Posted on April 26th, 2009 in Uncategorized by wisdavis

Thanks to the beautiful weather WIS enjoyed a couple of great outdoor activities the last few days.  Friday we celebrated the outstanding efforts of our students on the MAP with our reward BBQ.  Everyone got a chance to enjoy some great food and a little extra time outside.  Thanks to the many parents that came out to celebrate with us and especially to those that volunteered to help out.

The WIS and North Honor Choirs performed at the Springfield Cardinal’s game on Saturday.  They sounded great!  It was fun to spend the day at the ballpark with all the students and parents that were in attendance.  A 9th inning homer to win the game was the perfect end to a beautiful day.  Go Cards!

With 4 weeks of school left we have many things happening.  Here are a few important WIS events happening soon:

4/27 – Fine Arts Night/Talent Show 5:30

4/28 – Spring Choir Concert 7:00

5/2 – Steven Wingfield Benefit 4:00 – WN Cafeteria

5/4-5/8 – Teacher appreciation week

Great Effort at WIS

The MAP is over!  The MAP is over!  These words echoed through the halls of WIS on Thursday as students (and teachers) are glad to have our state assessments behind us.  I am confident our students will make us proud.  We want to thank our wonderful counselors Mrs. Skaggs and Mrs. Johnson for coordinating our testing, our PTO for providing snacks on test days, and our MAP assembly committee for putting together an awesome assembly for everyone on Monday.  Today was a great day to get outside and enjoy the weather after the week of testing.

A reminder that our MAP reward cookout will be this Friday April 24th during lunch.  Parents are welcome to attend this celebration with their child.  Please contact our office if you would like to join us.

Next Saturday April 25th, our honor choir will be singing at the Springfield Cardinals game.  This will coincide with our WIS day at the ballpark.  Game time is 2 pm.  We look forward to a good time and hope for some great baseball weather.

Keep paying it forward!

Time To Show What We Have Learned

What a busy 4 day week at WIS!  Our students and teachers have been busy making a final push to make sure we are ready for MAP testing next week.  WIS is confident that our students have the knowledge and preparation to continue the tradition of excellence we have established in past years.  A reminder that test dates are Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (4/14 and 4/15) for both grades and Thursday (4/16) for 5th grade.  Please make sure your student is prepared by getting plenty of rest and eating a healthy breakfast on those days.

Today our students and teachers had the privilege of hearing a great motivational speaker to help get everyone pumped up for next week.   Willard graduate and professional boxer B.J. Florez spent some time with us this afternoon.  Through his hard work and dedication he has become one of the best boxers in the world.  We know his words of wisdom and life experiences will not only get our students in the right mind-set for MAP testing but also as they continue their journey toward adulthood.

A reminder for everyone to continue to “Pay it Forward”!

MAP Quickly Approaching!

WIS is back to business after a relaxing spring break!  Along with every other school in the state we are making a final push in preparation for the state MAP tests.  Students and teachers are reviewing concepts to make sure WIS in on our “A” game for testing.  MAP Test dates are as follows:

Tuesday 4/14 – Communication Arts
Wednesday 4/15 – Mathematics
Thursday 4/16 – Science (5th grade only)

WIS will be kicking off MAP testing with a school wide assembly on Monday 4/13.  We are looking forward to some special guests and musical performances!  Students will be earning “points” during testing for positive behaviors that can be redeemed for extra recess and a cook out.

Today several students participated in the planting of a tree near our building.  This was in observance of National Arbor Day.  A special thanks to Miss. Ellis for coordinating this activity.

Our students continue to “Pay it Forward”.  Every morning this week an example of how someone has done this was read during our morning announcements.  It is great to hear the stories of how our students have done small things to positively impact the lives of others.  Keep up the good work!
