Winter Wonderland

What a week!  It is not very often that a school week consists of only a Monday and a Friday.  We hope everyone enjoyed the unexpected days off and got to play in the snow.  Makeup days are scheduled for 2/16 (Presidents Day), 3/23, and 4/13.

As a result of the missed days our fundraiser reward assembly and Honors assemblies have been rescheduled for Friday 2/6.  More information will be going home this week.  Our next PTO meeting will be 2/5 at 6:00 pm in our library and we would love to see you there!

Another busy week is in the books for Willard Intermediate.  Our week started with a very productive teacher work day on Monday.  Teachers were given the opportunity to reflect on recent MRI training and make preparations for the state MAP test that will be taken in April.  We hope our students enjoyed the 3 day weekend!  Inauguration day on Tuesday had many classes involved in discussions about the historic day.  Several of our classes finished up projects involving Dr. Martin Luther King and civil rights this week.  The warm weather allowed us to go outside and enjoy the temporary reprieve from the cold.

Next week we look forward to honoring our students academic accomplishments for 1st semester.  We have a very large group on our 1st semester honor roll.  Way to go!  Our 5th and 6th grade honors assembly will be on Friday 1/30.  We hope you can join us as we recognize our students academic acheivements for the first semester.  The prize assembly for our recent cookie dough sale will be on Thursday afternoon 1/29.

2nd Semester

Welcome to 2009!  We hope everyone enjoyed a fun and relaxing 2 weeks of vacation and that 2009 is off to a positive start.  WIS students and teachers are right back to work after the break.  2nd quarter and semester grade cards went home this week.  It was great to see that many individual student grades have improved for the year so far.  Keep up the good work!

I am very happy to announce that WIS will soon be the recipient of 3 exciting improvements.  Conco quarries has graciously agreed to fund our Tiger Talk program.  This exciting and innovative program will allow students to create and distribute podcasts to facilitate communication between our school and the community.  Through the hard work of our students and PTO new playground equipment will soon be purchased.  In addition, our PTO has budgeted $5000 to improve the classroom technology in our building.  We look forward to seeing the positive impact these efforts will have on our students!
