3 day weekend!

Posted on September 26th, 2008 in Uncategorized by wisdavis

What a great time of year to be a part of WIS!  I am amazed at the level of dedication and hard work I witness from our students and teachers on a daily basis.  From the DRA testing teachers are finishing up on every student to the after school clubs we have weekly to the student work on display in our halls you can tell we are fully back into the swing of school.  We hope our students enjoy the 3 day weekend as our teachers are hard at work improving their instructional strategies.

Parents that provided a working email to the school should have recently received a confirmation email to register for our parent-link program.  If you would like to participate in this service please contact our office so we can get it set up for you.  We would like to say a special “thanks” to the school district for the new bleachers in our main gym.  They are quite an upgrade over the ones they replace.  They look great and we look forward to everyone getting a chance to try them out.

Mid-Quarter reports coming home soon!

Posted on September 19th, 2008 in Uncategorized by wisdavis

It is hard to believe that we are already half-way through the first quarter.  On Monday the 22nd students will be receiving their mid-quarter reports.  Parents should be on the lookout for these important grade updates.  Keep in mind that the purpose of these reports is to give parents an update as to how their child is progressing for the first 4 weeks of school.  These grades are not “set in stone” in any way and four more weeks of school are yet to happen before they become permanent.  Parents are encouraged to discuss with their child how they feel they are progressing and any concerns or questions should be promptly discussed with the teacher.  Everyone wants their child to be successful and we view mid-quarter reports as a tool to help make this happen.

Our Tiger Savings Card fund raiser has been a huge success (again!).  Our goal of 1000 cards has been doubled!  We want to express our appreciation to all those that have supported WIS in this effort and to the local businesses that volunteered to offer the discounts.  We are now well on our way in purchasing new playground equipment and technology for our building.

i-Time at WIS

WIS kicked off a new reading improvement program this year titled iTime.  The purpose of this time is to allow students the opportunity to improve their reading ability and comprehension strategies.  We are confident that the best way to impact student achievement in every area of school is through improved reading.  Students attend iTime with their homeroom teacher every day for 40 minutes.  Currently every student in the building is being administered the DRA reading assessment to determine current reading abilities.  We appreciate the effort all of our staff have put into getting this program up and running and we know it will have a positive effect on learning at WIS!

A reminder that our fall fund raiser is currently under way.  We will be selling our Tiger Savings Cards until Wednesday the 17th.  Cost is $10.  Please contact our building if you would like to purchase one.  Thanks to everyone that has supported this effort!

WIS PTO

Posted on September 5th, 2008 in Uncategorized by wisdavis

I am very happy to announce that our school has it’s first ever PTO!  We already knew that we had great parents but I am excited to see this group come together with a unified purpose and focus.  Our officers for this year are: Carlyn Crocket-President, Grace Kelejian – Vice President, Kathy Hearod – Secretary, and Stepanie Samsel – Treasurer.  Be looking for information about this group to be coming your way.  The next WIS PTO meeting will be October 2nd at 6:00 pm in our library.

Our fall fundraiser kicks off Tuesday the 9th.  We will again be selling the Tiger discount cards that were a huge success last year.  The cost of each card is $10 and can be used an unlimited number of times for the entire year.  We plan to use the money raised to purchase new playground equipment and technology for the classrooms.

A reminder that our school will dismiss at 1:45 on Tuesday the 9th due to the Tour of Missouri bike race that will be passing through Willard and Springfield that afternoon.  A letter was sent home this week outlining the route and times of the race.  Thank you for your understanding in working through this event.
